Grant Kereama

We cannot wait for Ambassador Grant Kereama to be back in his home town of Whanganui with us for the 2017 New Zealand Masters Games.

Grant is excited to see Whanganui’s beautiful CBD humming as the War Memorial Centre transforms to be the new home of the Games Village.

Being a fan of leading a healthy active lifestyle, we hope to encourage Grant to sign up for a sport, or three!

Cath Cheatley

We are extremely fortunate to have Cath Cheatley as one of our 2017 Ambassadors – Cath is an Olympic and Commonwealth representative, NZ Road Cycling Champ, and proud to call Whanganui home!

As a youngster she grew up coming along to the Games supporting her folks, and is super excited to be back in 2017 cheering all of you on!

Cath says "Wow - where has the year gone! We are only 114 days until the 2017 New Zealand Masters Games kicks off in the mighty Whanganui. Now is the time to plan out all the events you can take part in. It could be challenging to fit everything in with such a huge range of choices. Remember the social events as well. Maybe pick the events with a later start after a night on the dance floor! I can’t wait to head down and watch everyone in action next year, relax in the Whanganui sunshine and eat my way around Games Village forecourt, and awesome cafes. See you soon!"

Sean Johnson

We're excited to have Sean join us as Ambassador for the second New Zealand Masters Games.

Inducted into the Whanganui Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Former world lawn bowls silver and bronze medal winner Sean Johnson has the distinction of having played in 99 tests for New Zealand.

Sean was Whanganui Sportsperson of the Year in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Sean was a New Zealand under-30 representative against Australia (1998-2000), played in the Millennium singles in Scotland in 2000, in the Northwest test series in England in 2001, was a trans-Tasman representative against Australia between 2001 and 2004, and represented New Zealand at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

National triumphs include winning the open pairs with Chris Waterson in 2000 and the national club triples in 2004. He was in Whanganui’s winning national junior team for the John Flett Trophy in 1993, in the champion Whanganui Super 8 team in 1999 and has won 18 open titles and 23 Aramoho club championships.
