Bevan Tasker - 86yrs Young! Looking for inspiration to be part of the NZ Masters Games? Look no further than Bevan Tasker.
Now at the age of 86, Bevan has participated in all 12 NZ Masters Games held in Wanganui, 5 held in Dunedin and 3 Pan Pacific Games on Australia’s Gold Coast. His only setback was in 2008 when he had a heart attack and required a triple bypass, but even that was not going to keep Bevan away from the next Games. Outdoor Bowls was his first passion but he soon grew to love the fun of Twilight 400 and Sports Accuracy Challenge. His swag of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals is proudly displayed in his home. He can’t quite remember off the top of his head how many he has won but he is proud of them all, what he can remember is all the good times he has had. “You meet lots of people when you compete and it definitely doesn’t matter if you play the sport or not, but the best events are those that encourage fun like Twilight 400 and Sports Accuracy Challenge.” But that is not all that Bevan has achieved at the Games he has also been a volunteer for all 20 Games he has attended. Bevan offers his services as a driver, transporting various people to where they need to be. He particularly enjoys this role when he assists with Twilight 400. “In both Wanganui and Dunedin volunteers are like one big family – we all know each other. I volunteer because I just enjoy being with all the people and having fun. In Wanganui in 2013, the Twilight 400 theme was ‘ Kiwi As’– everyone got into it and there were lots of laughs.” Bevan received a Certificate, for services rendered, from the organisers of the Pan Pacific Games and in 2013 in Wanganui he was presented with an award for his outstanding service to the NZ Masters Games. |

Maybe your main focus isn’t actually the netball, but who’s going to admit to that?! You really want to join the netballers is to be part of the traditional fancy dress parade. These netballers know how to have fun! Your contribution to your team might not be your shooting skills, leading the warm-up or even booking the accommodation, it’s your creativity. Let your imagination run wild. Kiwifruit, gumboots, swandris, buzzy bees, hokey pokey, pavlovas, jandals, pohutakawa, Fred Dagg, Billy T James … yes, you’ve got it, the theme for 2014 is . . . " KIWIANA "
